Worth your while: JANUARY 2012 - updated

December was a very good month for gigs, and there was many. January is going to be a little more low-key, but still a lot of good stuff is going to take place!

  • Unknown date, january: Possible Antifa bus-trip to Berlin. Nazi bastards attacked a house-project in Berlin. The danish antifascist media Projekt Antifa reports that there might be a possibility to go to Berlin by bus, if there is going to be demonstrations against the nazis, so keep an eye on their site! Read about the attack here.
  • 4th: Warsong, Nu Jävlar and Commie Cowboys. First punk/hardcore-gig of the year! Three really good bands kicking ass at Ungdomshuset. I am looking much forward to this, and all three bands are very well-played. It will be one of those you don't want to miss. If you're more of a Malmö-type, you can catch Warsong together with The War Goes On, january 3rd at Pizzeria Rex.
  • 10th: Queer self-defence workshop. If you have never practiced self-defence, now should be the time to start, especially if you concider yourself a queer. HXN and Mads, a good blogger by the way, will be doing this workshop in Ungdomshuset.
  • 16th: Mastodon at Vega. If you got the cash, some of Mastodons earlier records are definately worth your while. The venue is total shit though, so drink your beers elsewhere.
  • January 28th: BUMZEN Birthday party. A nice old squat, now legalized has a birthday party. Nice people, and i have been told they're booking nice music as well. More info later. Booked so far is Den Yderste Dag.

Oh and by the way, have a good new years, because it will be the last one.

    Some updates

    CRUSTMASS
Wow, Crustmass was a big succes, shitloads of people and awesome concerts!
I am going to wait a bit writing about that gig, since we're at the moment waiting for videos and pictures to be fixed. As soon as that happens it will be uploaded. From what i've heard, it is some good stuff...

    CALENDAR
The calendar feature will as well be updated pretty soon (after december 26th).

    STUFF TO CHECK OUT
My bud K finally released his blog. Because of our common work, a lot of the stuff posted on our blogs about gigs will be similar, but our approach is often very different.

A new distro in Ungdomshuset, called Distribution 61, opened recently, various political records ranging from hiphop to crustpunk. It's open at the same hours as the house's bookcafé. Check the hours here.

The Warsong/Nu Jävlar/Commie Cowboys-gig 4th of january will for sure be a blast, and since it's early next year, and therefore not in the calendar, here's a heads up.

SKITKIDS and HJERTESTOP: Ungdomshuset got turned into an insane asylum

The Skitkids // Hjertestop final gig at Ungdomshuset, december 3rd was insane. But who did'nt see that coming.

Thanks to the people who uploaded all the stuff i link to in this article, and please tell me if any of you find Slöa Knivar on the web somewhere except Amazon...

Photos from all the gigs here.

    Lautstürmer - Malmö
First band to play was Lautstürmer, local swedish crust-act that have just done a Brazil-tour. Very d-beat/käng-ish and uptempo, and tight as fuck. It must have been a couple of years since i saw them, and damn have they improved. Check them out if they're nearby your town and you have a fetish classic swedish rawpunk/d-beat. Until then, download their stuff here and here.

    Slöa Knivar - Malmö
Next up was Slöa Knivar, also local swedish stuff, but punkrock with a hardcore-touch. I honestly have to admit, that i can't remember seing a concert with them before, but i probably have, thank you booze... The guitar-driven instrumentals is very cathcy and melodic, but still has an edge. The lead-singer was amazing, jumping around, standing on hands and most important: doing amazing raw vocals that actually reminded me a little of Nausea. Listen to their stuff here.

    HJERTESTOP
Hjertestop was next, one of the most significant punkbands to emerge from the danish scene in the 00's. Personally i didn't expect Hjertestop to ever stop playing, at least not now, so it was a sad moment when i first heard about this final gig.
The concert was everything i expected, a tour through all of their best song, my personal favorites being "Ind i Lejren" and "Vold overalt", both with simple and catchy lyrics that any punk in Copenhagen knows.
I could brag on about their music, but since i figure most of you know them already i say to the ones who don't: Check it out yourselves! You can find a full list of their releases at The Fat Punk. Here is also a couple of videos from the gig, thanks to the uploader. I saw many cameras the whole night, so more will probably turn up!

    SKITKIDS
One of the first punkbands from the DIY-scene i got a record with, Skitkids has always meant something special to me, and the (sadly) few shows i've seen with them have been good, every single time.
Extremely well-played hardcorepunk, with strong influences from the swedish råpunk/d-beat-scene it seems, their sound is very distinct. Especially the guitar got a very special feel to it, more rock'n'roll than punkrock, which i think is where the difference is.
Their act as a whole is always insane, this last time it featured a monkey, a pig (yes, a cop of course), sexy silk-boxers and chili-sauce for sale in their distro. Sounds good, hu?
You can find their stuff here, here and here!

    Weekend entertainment: "De Skrigende Halse"

This cult-classic is a must-see for anyone interested in the danish scene. Even though the movie has no ties to any actual events and is pretty messed-up, it has all the cliché's you'd expect from a punk-movie based on the 80's; nihilistic punk-poem writers, simplified no-wave punkrock, too much mascara and black black black.
Even more fun is the fact, that a bunch of the actors involved are pretty big tv and movie-stars here in DK today.

Sadly the movie is not texted, but non-danes should be able to understand it anyway, it's pretty simple.
    Thanks to whoever uploaded this!

Oh, and they also made the music from the movie into a cd afterwards!

    EARLY FESTIVAL-GUIDE AND RUMOURS

2012 is almost here, and with a new year comes a lot of planning for next years festivals.
For some time, Copenhagen has had a strong tradition when it comes to DIY music-festivals, in particular very focused ones, which i prefer over the larger ones like Roskilde and Wacken. I could write endless amounts of text on festivals, as there are so many, but here is the ones i find important for Copenhagen and i for sure will attend. At some point closer to the festivals i will write some more on them.
Warning: Rumours and shittalk at the end of this article.

Part of the group that did (and does) the succesfull Kill-town festival are doing a doom/sludge festival. This year it will take place in no less than 3 venues; Loppen, Stengade and of course Ungdomshuset. The bookers have promised no less than 28(!) bands, which is a huge amount for a first-timer. Pretty impressive! So far 21 bands are confirmed, check them out here. To be fair, i'm all new in the doom/sludge scene, but the local bands i've seen and heard many times, and they are very good. Check out Moonless, a very catchy and groovy band, amazing vocals and c-parts. Also, check out Pyramido, they got some extremely heavy and brutal riffs, which i'm a sucker for. Last but not least i am looking very much forward to see Aguirre, combines crust with doom/sludge, and they also just released new material, interesting stuff!
The festival will also include food and different activities, but the far most interesting thing except of course the music, will be the focus on DIY-art. You can read about that here.

This festival as well will take place in Ungdomshuset,  and it is the first time - as far as i'm concerned, that anyone tries to make a more-than-one-day black metal only gig/festival. While i am not that much into black metal, i know that some of you out there are, so be sure to check this out! So far not much has been confirmed , but rumour has it, that a total of 6 black metal-bands will play over two days. At the moment three bands are confirmed, two anarchist (no bullshit) bands from Canada, Æsahættr and Thantifaxath. Solbrud is also confirmed, very good local stuff.

This festival is soon to be confirmed, but it will happen, and it will be as crazy as last year!

While 100% confirmed, no news on this festival at the moment, but judging from the two last years, it will be a blast. Focusing on death metal in all its forms, with bands both from Europe and abroad, this 2012 edition of this monster is certainly a no-miss.

    Rumours and shittalk
Rumours are fun, and i bet some of this will be true, some not.
No matter what, don't hold me acountible:
    • The swedish Punk Illegal-festival will not happen, which sucks. I really hope the crew will do another one next year, as it was my favorite! Sadly this is not a rumour.
    • There will - maybe - be a Copenhagen/Malmö hardcore and punk-fest in the beginning of march 2012. Nothing 100% confirmed, but if it will happen be sure to check it out.
    • December 21st 2012 is of course the end of the world. Some kind of one-day festival will take place here. It will only be one day though. Reason? There is no the 22nd.

    WORTH YOUR WHILE: December

December is packed, i tell you. Here is a short guide to some of the most interesting in my opinion:

    • 2nd: Benefit party in support of an antifa-fieldtrip to stop a bunch of nazis in Stockholm. Check it out here.
    • 3rd, afternoon: The Projekt Antifa lecture has been cancelled but will happen some time in the future.
    • 3rd, evening: A gig of epic proportions will for sure take place when SKITKIDS and HJERTESTOP plays their last concert. Ever. Show up or have no taste. More local acts too, especially Lautstürmer will be a good one to check-out!
    • 4th: Pentagram at Loppen.
    • 16th: Crustmass! As described in my previous blog.
    • 26th: Rhytm and blues barnight at Ungdomshuset. You're probably thinking "why the hell are you posting this pile of crap on a crustie-blog!?" Well, because it is not RnB, it's blues and Rocknroll!

    OLD AND NEW GRAPHICS

Here's a bunch of flyers for past shows. Some of them i did together with my booking-buddy K and a couple i or he did alone. His blog should be up and running pretty soon...

Original lineup, changed later due to some lineup-trouble for H1N1

MERRY CRUSTMASS AND A HORRIFIC NEWYEAR

First blog is a commercial. And it suits the season. What a start.
Well this is the deal: Some time ago a group of crusty bookers i K-Town did these awesome gigs called "Crust Mass", but there for a couple of years or so, so my buddy K and i thought: "Well this is a bloody shame, Hell, lets do it again!"
    It's going down like this:
4 crust-acts (some more rawpunk and dbeat than others). 3 of them is from Sweden (the land of crustpunk, IKEA and insanely expensive beer), fucking crusty dbeat destruction. Check them out here, here and here. The danish band is actually a project i'm involved in, no link yet. But come on k-town'ers: Start playing some stench/crust/dbeat!
LinkPrice is 50 DKK (may be lowered), its the 16th december from 21.00, in Ungdomshuset, Dortheavej 61, Copenhagen.

    See you there!

If i am still alive after this i will hopefully write some more or less constructive about the gig, possibly some reviews or something similar. Check back soon again...
