24th-28th (or 27th): UNGDOMSHUSET 30th ANNIVERSARY. I could brag on about this, but lets keep it simple:

• Thursday programme: Galla-peoples kitchen, afterparty and much more
• Friday programme: BOMBEREGN reunion plus shitloads of good punk/rock/hardcore/metal bands
• Saturday programme: GADE X reunion, hangout and shitloads of dance music

Important dates in OCTOBER 2012

Ungdomshuset will host a special 4-day 30th-anniversary party in october 24th-28th. During theese days there will be lots of different music, but what is most interesting for all you punk/d-beat/hardcore/metal-lovers out there is friday the 26th. This will be the "rock and the like" day, on which one or more old bands will reunite for this one time only. I can't tell you what it is yet, but damn is it good. So be sure to mark a big fat X in your calendar, i promise you will regret it forever if you're not there. Also shitloads of the best local acts will be there!

APRIL 2012 goes bananas (updated again)

Too many gigs, too little time. What a month!

3rd: CHURCH OF MISERY (jap) + DOGMATIST (k-town) @ Loppen, 21-late. Door 70 kr. Old japanese doom/stoner with heavy early Black Sabbath references supported by local hc-band Dogmatist, who has done a couple of really good shows already.

Good mix of swedish punk and d-beat/hardcore combined with death. Lots of genres, lots of fun. But come on - how can you fit 140 people into that place?

20th-21st: KALDET FRA DYBET @ Ungdomshuset, 21-late (both days). Door 50 kr each day. Dark and gloomy mini-black metal festival with interesting local bands and two anarchist black metal bands from Canada.

21st: INSTINCT OF SURVIVAL (de) + AVFART 33 (se) + SEPSIS (k-town) @ Elværket in Helsingør, 16-very late. Door 40 kr. Heavy duty gig, and i've mentioned it before. New since then: Instinct of Survival are supposedly doing new tracks at their current gigs, and Sepsis will release a demo for you to buy at the gig.

21st: CONAN (uk) + SINISTER CREATION (k-town) @ Beta at Amager, 21-late. Door 75 kr (presale). Not possible to go to Helsingør? This would be the solution then. Doom from the UK combined with locals heavily influenced by NWOBHM and doom.

25th: UMBERTO (us) + more TBA @ Stengade, 20-late. Door 40 kr. If you didn't get enough horror on the 13th, this is a good solution. Freakish tunes that would fit perfectly with an 70's horror movie will be provided.

26th: VULCANO (bra) + BLODFEST (dk) + OGDRU JAHAD (dk) @ Stengade, 21-late. Door 80 kr. A now legendary brazilian metal band on the edge between NWOBHM, black and death supported by local black and a debut-concert.

26th: TOTAL CRUST DETONATION: DEATH REIGN + AUTONOMA PARADISE @ Bumzen, 20-late. Door 30 kr. Raw crust/hardcore and crustcore on a thursday. I'm a fan.

Shits going down: MARCH 2012

Tons of stuff to do this month! There has been some minor changes in the way i do this, hope it works out for ya. I'll of course update if neccesary.

1st: March 1st Demonstration from Dortheavej 61, 17.00

As most of you know, some Christian fucktards decided to destroy the old Ungdomshuset on this day, five years ago. In remembrance, some activists have arranged a demonstration, going from the new Ungdomshuset, past Jagtvej 69, ending at Folkets Park.

2nd: Spiders (se) + Doublestone at Stengade, 21.00, 60 kr.

Sounding a like the soundtract to a Tarantino-movie, Spiders will be a really good gig, no doubt! To be honest, i have no idea on what Doublestone's about (but i've heard they are really good!).

8th: Grave Desecrator (bra) + War-Head (cro) + Sejr at Mayhem, 21.00, 40 kr.

Brutal black/death from Brazil supported by Croatian thrash, whats not to like? A local (to me unknown) band called Sejr will appear as well. 

9-10th: No Borders Fest // Ktown meets Malmö at Ungdomshuset, two days, 50 kr a day.

Two days of punk, hardcore and crust. A massive lineup that deserves its own blog-post. Check out my bla bla bla here.

10th: Documentary-premiere: "Bombemordet i Søllerødgade" at Støberiet, 19.00.

A terror-attack on a socialist group, ending with one dead, has extra attention this year, since it is 20 years ago on march 16th. A producer-team presents their brand-new movie on the bombing.

10th: Cerekloth + Pustulation + Mold at Stengade, 21.00, 60 kr.

Mean and evil death in various forms. Both Cerekloth and Pustulation should be checked out, Cerekloth did a great gig at KTDF as far as i remember! Mold is brand-new, and word on the street says they delivered an impressive concert last time they did a gig.

12th: Crude (jp) + Backlash (fin) + Dogmatist at Stengade, 21.00, 40 kr.

Crude speaks for itself, this will get messy. Backlash is straight forward hardcore and Dogmatist is one of K-Towns newest HC-installments. Whats not to like?

16th: "Duk dig ikke, duk op", at Blågårds Plads, 17.00.
Demonstration in remembrance of the above mentioned terror-attack.

16th: Moonless album-release party, at Loppen, 21.00, 40 kr.

One of my absolute favorite bands at the moment finally has a record release (so far, only a demo and some online stuff has been released). The gig features Moonless, The War Goes On, Torchlight and one more tba!

23rd: Dig og Mig + MOR + Afdeling O + Dj Rabalder, at Elværket (Helsingør), 21.00, 40 kr.

Up for some catchy (all most too catchy) pop-punk with lyrics taken from an old No Hope For The Kids song? Well then you should go for this gig, with Dig og Mig, electro-punk locals Mor, a to me unknown band called Afdeling O and DJ Rabalder.

24th: Miasmal (se) + Molok + Hekla, at Elværket (Helsingør), 21.00, 40 kr.
I'm not really into black, so i'll only be able to say some words on Miasmal.
A heavy deathband from around Gothenburg that did a killer gig at KTDF (was it last year??). Got a crusty edge, and it is clear, that some one in that band has done several d-beat acts before. Some of the best death scandinavia can show in my book!

29th: Fuck The Facts + Slaktattack + Green River Killer + Solid Noise, at Ungdomshuset, 20.00, 50 kr.

One hefty lineup closes down this month (lets see if more turns up as always...). Fuck The Facts does an insanely good grind-act, Slaktattack brings the crusty edge with d-beat as only swedes can provide, Green River Killer mixes metal and grind, and last but not least, Solid Noise is a brand new promising grind-band from Ungdomshuset!

31st: Århus for mangfoldighed 

Important demonstration against fascists from EDL and DDL, not to miss. There will be buses from Copenhagen, so no excuse...

Closer look: No Borders Fest at Ungdomshuset

The No Borders-fest at Ungdomshuset, march 9-10th, will present some of the new-ish bands from the K-Town and Malmö scene. Because of that, i'd like to line them up, and add some links and words on the bands. The order of bands is not availible at the moment, so they are in random, except date of course.

Friday, march 9th, doors at 21.00, 50 kr.: 

URSUT (malmö)
From Malmö and the surrounding area, Ursut is in-line with the swedish crusty d-beat tradition. Having just released a new LP (which is really good, and way beyond the first stuff), Ursut will be an interesting concert. Last time they visited Ungdomshuset was at DIY Punk Fest 2011, one of the best concerts at that festival.

LAUTSTÜRMER (malmö)
Well, it's hard to say much about Lautstürmer that hasn't been said before, especially since they've been on the scene longer than i, haha. Brutal d-beat madness, about to release (very soon!) a new 7'', the rumour says.

SUBHERO (k-town)
Subhero emerge from the Ungdomshuset practice-spaces, and took over the cross-over sound that Chainsaw Brigade (sometimes) did. Then add some serious guitar-shredding, and there we go. Having just released a demo and continuously writing new material, it will be interesting to see what these guys are up to.

BRUDTE LØFTER (k-town)
Brand new band, doing the more traditional K-Town hardcore-thing. Reminds a lot of Amdi Petersens Armé (absolutely not a bad thing). They have just recorded some fast demo-tracks, but have already gotten shitloads of gigs. 

UPPGÅNG OCH FALL (malmö)

There is something with swedes and catchy as hell punkrock, and this is another proof of that. Another (almost) brand-new punk band, that could be placed genre-wise close to swedish Terrible Feelings.

Saturday, march 10th, doors at 20.00 (remember afternoon-programme from 16.00), 50 kr.: 

ANATOMI 71 (malmö)
Well, on with d-beat again, another one of the käng-torchbearer bands. This one has a lot of records and gigs behind them, so you're in for a treat. Actually i've never seen them before, so i'm very pep myself!

COMMIE COWBOYS (k-town)
Good, cathcy and snotty punkrock with references to the late 70's. Promising band that has done quite a few gigs during the past months. Gotta say i love the name too, especially 'cause it fits the genre so well.

DÅRLIGT SELSKAB (k-town)
"Old" punx (from tons of old bands - the ones every k-town punk knows) get together, and starts a new band, making the name "Bad Company" (translated) even better. No one has heard them except themselves, meaning it will be a must-see concert.

CRUTCHES (malmö)
New d-beat madness with members from various Malmö-based bands. Releasing a demo very soon (rumour has it that you'll be able to buy it at the festival) with a good amount of their material. More hardcore-inspired than the classic käng-styled bands, and damn, its fast!

THE WAR GOES ON (k-town)
Where to start... This band has members from all around the K-Town scene, but frankly it speaks very much for it self. Dangerously cathcy melodic punkrock with the most embittered lyrics you'll find - ever. Really good, and one of my favorite live acts.

Back to attack: FEBRUARY 2012 UPDATED

Some more stuff added...

So, after a quiet january, february will be busy as hell. There's a lot of double-bookings, so it will look quite messy:

2nd: THIS GIFT IS A CURSE (swe), HEXIS (kbh) start of their tour at Ungdomshuset, Dortheavej 61, and ABSCISSION (kbh) will play as well. All the bands make use of  a new school-ish mix of black -and deathmetal with lots of hardcore-elements. Doors: 20.00, Entry: 40 kr.

10th: DOGMATIST, SKURV and BRUDTE LØFTER playing at Bumzen, Baldersgade 20. Dogmatist and Brudte Løfter is two completely new ktown hardcore-acts, both promising to deliver a raw sound, good times and headaches. The gig is their debut-show as well! Skurv (kbh) is described as "youth-crew scooter oi". I'll leave it at that. Doors: 21.00, Entry: 35 kr.

10th: PUNKS UNDEAD VOL. 23 at Magstræde, w/ PORNO DVÆRG (hellsingør), PIS (kbh), THE GRAVE IS NOT THE END (roskilde) and DEN YDERSTE DAG (kbh). A pretty wide mix of never bands from Ktown and the surrounding area. Kiddie-punk, horrorpunk, drunkpunk and crustpunk will all be represented. Doors: 20.00, Entry: 40 kr.

11th: GOOD NIGHT WHITE PRIDE support-bash at Ungdomshuset, Dortheavej 61. Loads of stuff will happen, to much for a few lines, so check out the link. One hall is electro-stuff, the other will be metal and punk with some crusty DJ's you might recognize... Doors: 19.00, Entry: free until 21.00, after that: 50 kr.

11th: FUNEBRARUM (us), UNDERGANG (kbh), DEFILEMENTORY (udstrup) and MOLD (kbh) at Loppen, Christiania. Really promising death metal show put up by the good people in the Kill-Town crew. Both a debut-concert, tour-band and a record-release at the same gig. Doors: 21.00, Entry: 70 kr. 

14th: KYLESA (us) + Support at Beta Club, Amager. Kylesa is one of those bands that can do anything, and therefore youre never sure what to expect. They've got some awesome crusty tunes as well as close-to-traditional thrashy stuff, and from what i've heard it is always a good show. Doors: 20.00, Entry: 135 (so it better be good...).

17th: FOREVER DOOMED #2:BOTTOM FEEDER (kbh), TORCHLIGHT (kbh), UNION OF SLEEP (de) and DJ Grief + DJ Jens Franco at Ungdomshuset, Dortheavej 61. The darker genres continue to take a big bite of this month with this all-sludge gig! Doors: 21.00, Entry: 40 kr. 

18th: BLACK FAG (us) and MISS FISH & THE DROWNERS (kbh) at Stengade 30. No, there is not an "L" missing in Black Fag and yes, they are approved by the actual Black Flag. This sets new standards for queercore, and with as good and entertaining support as Miss Fish, nothing can go wrong. Doors: 21.00, Entry: 50 kr.  

24th: CRUTCHES (malmö), KYLMÄ SOTA (fin) and INFERNÖH (malmö) at Rex, Malmö. Another punk gig at the Rex Pizzeria, this time raw-punk only. Doors: 19.00, Entry: No idea?

25th: CAULDRON (can) + STRIKER (can) + SINISTER CREATION (kbh) at Stengade 30. Cauldron provides the classic heavy metal, Striker makes makes sure that things are speeded up a bit as well with clear Judas Priest references, while Sinister Creation is doing oldschool NWOBH! Doors: 21.00, Entry: 80 kr.

 

EARLY FESTIVAL-GUIDE AND RUMOURS

2012 is almost here, and with a new year comes a lot of planning for next years festivals. 

For some time, Copenhagen has had a strong tradition when it comes to DIY music-festivals, in particular very focused ones, which i prefer over the larger ones like Roskilde and Wacken. I could write endless amounts of text on festivals, as there are so many, but here is the ones i find important for Copenhagen and i for sure will attend. At some point closer to the festivals i will write some more on them.

HEAVY DAYS IN DOOMTOWN, MAY 3rd-6th

Part of the group that did (and does) the succesfull Kill-town festival are doing a doom/sludge festival. This year it will take place in no less than 3 venues; Loppen, Stengade and of course Ungdomshuset. The bookers have promised no less than 28(!) bands, which is a huge amount for a first-timer. Pretty impressive! So far 21 bands are confirmed, check them out here. To be fair, i'm all new in the doom/sludge scene, but the local bands i've seen and heard many times, and they are very good. Check out Moonless, a very catchy and groovy band, amazing vocals and c-parts. Also, check out Pyramido, they got some extremely heavy and brutal riffs, which i'm a sucker for. Last but not least i am looking very much forward to see Aguirre, combines crust with doom/sludge, and they also just released new material, interesting stuff!

The festival will also include food and different activities, but the far most interesting thing except of course the music, will be the focus on DIY-art. You can read about that here.

MINI-BLACK METAL FESTIVAL, APRIL 20-21st

This festival as well will take place in Ungdomshuset,  and it is the first time - as far as i'm concerned, that anyone tries to make a more-than-one-day black metal only gig/festival. While i am not that much into black metal, i know that some of you out there are, so be sure to check this out! So far not much has been confirmed , but rumour has it, that a total of 6 black metal-bands will play over two days. At the moment three bands are confirmed, two anarchist (no bullshit) bands from Canada, Æsahættr and Thantifaxath. Solbrud is also confirmed, very good local stuff.

DIY PUNK FEST, JUNE

This festival is soon to be confirmed, but it will happen, and it will be as crazy as last year!

KILLTOWN DEATH FEST, SEPTEMBER

While 100% confirmed, no news on this festival at the moment, but judging from the two last years, it will be a blast. Focusing on death metal in all its forms, with bands both from Europe and abroad, this 2012 edition of this monster is certainly a no-miss.

Rumours and shittalk

Rumours are fun, and i bet some of this will be true, some not. 

No matter what, don't hold me acountible:

• The swedish Punk Illegal-festival will not happen, which sucks. I really hope the crew will do another one next year, as it was my favorite! Sadly this is not a rumour.
• There will - maybe - be a Copenhagen/Malmö hardcore and punk-fest in the beginning of march 2012. Nothing 100% confirmed, but if it will happen be sure to check it out.
• December 21st 2012 is of course the end of the world. Some kind of one-day festival will take place here. It will only be one day though. Reason? There is no the 22nd. 

WORTH YOUR WHILE: December

December is packed, i tell you. Here is a short guide to some of the most interesting in my opinion:

• 2nd: Benefit party in support of an antifa-fieldtrip to stop a bunch of nazis in Stockholm. Check it out here.
• 3rd, afternoon: The Projekt Antifa lecture has been cancelled but will happen some time in the future. 
• 3rd, evening: A gig of epic proportions will for sure take place when SKITKIDS and HJERTESTOP plays their last concert. Ever. Show up or have no taste. More local acts too, especially Lautstürmer will be a good one to check-out!
• 4th: Pentagram at Loppen.
• 16th: Crustmass! As described in my previous blog.
• 26th: Rhytm and blues barnight at Ungdomshuset. You're probably thinking "why the hell are you posting this pile of crap on a crustie-blog!?" Well, because it is not RnB, it's blues and Rocknroll!
